Many famous writers were either born here, grew up in Ohio, or lived in the state sometime during their lives. And Ohio is full of many creative people who have written and continue to write interesting novels, stories, plays, and poems - as well as journalists, nonfiction writers, screenwriters, etc.
The list of Ohio writers is so long that we could not possibly include everyone on this web site. Since the Ohio Reading Road Trip curriculum focuses on fiction writers and poets, we've limited our coverage to those genres, although nonfiction, journalism, and other types of writing are just as important and exciting as fiction and poetry. We also based our selections on information from the Ohioana Library Association, which publishes a list of Ohio Literary Notables. In most cases, we have tried to include people who write primarily for young adults and adults, although we do make a few exceptions in children's literature (such as Robert McCloskey, who wrote Make Way for Ducklings).
We hope that you'll find the author information here to be helpful and interesting, and we apologize if your favorite author doesn't appear on this web site.
Each author's name connects you to his or her biography, a bibliography of selected works, quotes on writing from the author, and links to other web sites.
